"Storytelling vs. Data: Finding a Balance that Persuades"

“If you would persuade, you must appeal to interest, rather than intellect”. Credited to Ben Franklin, these words have never been more relevant. As scientists, we focus on the data, but often find them to be a poor match for the stories that drive public discussion, beliefs, and ultimately critical health decisions. COVID vaccine communication is, of course, the most obvious recent example, but it’s an old story in which public health scientists and health educators have always struggled to find the most convincing balance. Consider some tools, ideas, and examples to explore the role of storytelling, in expressing your data.

Join this session to better understand how to incorporate stories to elevate data for maximum impact.
