About NJ SOPHEThe New Jersey Society for Public Health Education (NJ SOPHE) is an independent volunteer organization made up of professional health educators and students who work or reside in New Jersey. A public health educator is a professionally trained educator who plans, implements, and evaluates programs promoting healthy behaviors and healthy environments. NJ SOPHE is a state chapter of the Society for Public Health Education, a national professional service organization formed in 1950 to promote the health of all people by stimulating research, developing criteria for professional preparation, and elevating performance standards for the practice of health education. Cumulative efforts by its members have helped SOPHE achieve international recognition for outstanding contributions to the improvements of individual and community health. NJ SOPHE's membership extends health education principles and practice into many settings: the community...colleges and universities...the home...hospitals...and other health care facilities...official, professional, and voluntary agencies and organizations...schools, and the workplace. The Society derives its strengths from the united efforts of its members who include administrators, behavioral scientists, community health educators, consumers, dentists, facility, health planners, mental health educators, nurses, physicians, school health educators, teachers, and volunteers.
Our MissionNJ SOPHE endorses the mission statement of National SOPHE which is to provide leadership to the profession of health education and to contribute to the health of all people through excellence in health education practice and the promotion of public health policies conducive to health.NJ SOPHE promotes healthy behaviors, healthy communities, and healthy environments through its membership and its numerous partnerships with other organizations. With its primary focus on public health education, NJ SOPHE promotes standards of excellence of professional preparation, research and practice, professional development, and public outreach. |
